Street Style Favourites: Brights

The fashion shows were always a theatrical carnival, like watching Elton John on speed [as camp and colourful!]. Manic with bouts of intense boredom while standing around waiting for the next show to start, although the waiting was always the perfect time to ogle the gathered fashion buyers, journalists and stylists. Like a touring zoo of the most stylish and preened people on the planet. The odd celebrity sighting, or American Vogue editor was like winning at Top Trumps.

And somehow I found the 'real' style of the gathered fashionistas more inspiring than the parading racehorses inside the tents. The models were striking, beautiful but entirely unattainable and unrealistic. The looks outside were a more eclectic mix of vintage, high street and designer rather than the head to toe considered designs at the shows.

You don't have to go to the shows to see the styles, lots of photographers and bloggers now catalogue the outfits like an online look book. My favourites are The Sartorialist, All the Pretty Birds and Tommy Ton. Elle, Vogue and Marie Claire also have regular street style features even the style of photography has become common place in the editorial pages of the magazines [girl looking at her phone while walking down the street; girl sipping take-away coffee outside book shop - you know the kind of thing!].

You can see some of my street style favourites on my pinboard here.

A pretty floral blouse in a girly bright colour looks great with denim or white [1], look for vintage inspired prints in sugary shades or graphic retro colours.

A well cut pair of trousers in a bright hue is a different way to add a splash of colour [2], match a wardrobe classic like this white blouse, a crew neck T or a striped jersey to make the look fresh and modern.

Bright accessories [3] are always a fun way to add colour and character to your outfit. Vintage statement pieces can be picked up for a few pounds, or look for high street pieces that look expensive [bright enamel florals add a pretty detail for day or evening].

Simple style doesn't always mean classic pieces and neutral colours, a bold statement dress like this one on Natalie Massenet is elegant and easy with a tan and a chunky watch.

Monochrome with bright: This is another favourite - the bright graphic print matched with the fitted leather jacket is a really modern look - I love the print and the pleats of this skirt.
